Windshield Adventuring in Yellowstone National Park, Part 1

Our stay in Yellowstone National Park was terrific. We took the full day “Circle of Fire Tour” in a 1937 yellow Ford touring car. The tour started out with a buffalo stampede around our touring car and included virtually all of the highlights in the western and southern section of the park. Special thanks to our driver and guide Jeff.

We went down to the campground office (had to be there by 8:15 a.m. sharp!)  and boarded the Yellow Touring bus.  From there, we headed back across the Fishing Bridge (which you can’t fish from by the way) and there was a real live, honest to heaven buffalo herd coming down hill and crossing the bridge.  It was also our first and biggest wildlife snarl as folks stopped to let the animals pass–and some folks jumped out of their cars to run over and take pictures of the herd.    Which is not the wisest of things — buffalo are normally pretty gentle giants but if one of them decides you are too close to him or to another member of his herd…  well, best said this way:  you can get hurt when a 2,000+ pound buffalo lets you know he’s not happy with you.  So, stay in your car and snap away.  That way everbody goes home happy.
